International Students
Barnard College is home to over 600 international students and recent graduates pursuing work authorizations in F and J immigration status, representing over 55 countries. The International Student Services team subscribes to a three-pronged approach to supporting international students across the life cycle from acceptance through full-time work experience post-graduation. This holistic approach focuses on academic adaptation, social integration, and cultural awareness.
Prospective international students work with Barnard's Office of Admissions to submit their applications to Barnard, and for guidance from admissions to financial aid.
Newly accepted international students work with the International Student Services (ISS) to begin applications for the Form I-20 (F-1 students) or DS-2019 (J-1 students) for the purpose of applying for visas and preparing for the mandatory Pre-Orientation Program (Summer) or International Student Orientation (Spring transfers). Continuing international students and new graduates receive ongoing support and guidance from International Student Services / Access Barnard. ISS advises students on visa regulations, travel, on and off-campus work, cultural integration, campus involvement and leadership, and more. Additionally, dynamic activities and programs designed for international students often include international orientation, off-campus trips, celebratory programs, opportunities for cross-cultural engagement, a Global Ambassador (student leader) program, and more.
